Sarah Burton’s most recent collection for Alexander McQueen looks more like an exhibit at The MET than something you’d find in a store on Madison Avenue. As the designer recently explained of her Resort 2017 Collection, “each [piece] is hand-painted, and you see, it’s on leather.” She further detailed how she derived inspiration from British folk art, looking specifically at floral wallpaper patterns.

Up close, the intricacy of the workmanship is astonishing. Fine knits, carefully painted floral prints on to unexpected fabrics and out-of-this-world beading are just a few of the elements that took our breath away. The overall feel is very 60’s-esque, with an abundance of frill, oversized skirts and even a tailored houndstooth cape coat.

Looking through the collection you feel almost as if you are taken to another time – or at least to a fantastic late-60’s vintage store.
